We have profiled Les Ryan twice – once in November, 2013, on his farming operation, and then, last August, 2015, we profiled Ryan Bros. Cattle. Les’ good wife, Laurie, sent me an update on his behalf, as to their activities over the winter. Here is his note for you.
Good Morning Robin!
Hope all is well with you and your family. Thought I would drop you a quick note about the crops and conditions. Fortunately, this year’s winter wheat is looking very good as compared to last year and the lack of moisture. I don’t see any winter-kill as of yet, but we do still have March yet, so hopefully nothing will happen between now and April 1st.
I have been attending meetings lately and am still at odds about what I want to plant for this year’s crops. My thoughts at this point are probably garbanzo beans and some dark northern spring (DNS) wheat. Prices aren’t very cooperative right now, but we hope for some changes by harvest. Fuel prices are way down so this should be very advantageous for us in keeping expenses down, and hopefully the trend will continue.
We will look forward to a visit this spring, and you all take care!
Yours,
Les and Laurie Ryan
