Buying American Grown and Local Food is Permanent

Research from the USDA Marketing Services finds that interest in locally and American grown food is not a short-lived trend.  Interest has changed local food production and consumer behaviour in many areas of the U.S.

The USDA finds an increase of:

* 33% in total agricultural sales by direct-to-consumer transactions from 1997 to 2007.

*91% in the number of farmers’ markets from 1998 to 2009.

*120% in direct-to-consumer sales from 1997 to 2007.

*190% in the number of Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) ventures from 2001 to 2005.

*423% in the number of farm-to-school programs from 2004 to 2009.

These are huge numbers, and this is great news for farmers all across America!  This means that all of us are more interested in our food source, and in supporting our local and country’s economy, and are buying AMERICAN GROWN FOOD!
